Gingivitis is a Serious Condition
Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) should not be taken lightly. Around 80 percent of Germans of all ages suffer from this condition which, left untreated, can develop into periodontitis – an inflammation of the supporting structures of the tooth caused by bacterial infection. The harm periodontitis can cause should not be underestimated: the inflammation can progress to the point where it attacks the periodontal ligament (the layer of connective tissue lying between the tooth and the bone of the jaw) as well as the bone itself. This can lead to tooth loss. Recent studies indicate that oral health and general health have a reciprocal effect on one another. This is why it is important to treat inflammation of the gums promptly and to prevent disorders of the structures supporting the teeth from occurring in the first place.
Prevention is better
Following a few simple rules can prevent gingivitis and bleeding gums. Clean your teeth at least twice a day. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles; otherwise you risk not only injuring your gums but also, in the long term, causing damage to the soft tooth enamel. You can clean the spaces between the teeth with dental floss or special interdental brushes.
Additionally, WalaVita Mouthwash keeps the oral flora in a healthy equilibrium and prevents mouth infections. Make sure you drink enough. This guarantees the optimum flow of saliva, preventing dryness of the mouth and the growth of harmful bacteria. Also important: a balanced diet has a positive influence on the composition of the saliva and the bacterial flora in the mouth.

WalaVita Meliamint toothpaste reduces inflammation of the gums more rapidly than four other toothpastes (Parodontax, Colgate total, Dentagard, WalaVita Citrisol toothpaste). This was shown by a long-term controlled double-blind clinical study* in 125 volunteers conducted at the University of Dresden, Germany. The test results showed: WalaVita Meliamint toothpaste was the only product to demonstrate a statistically significant reduction in infection at all times of testing.
